About us
“Concepts should be adaptable while maintaining their essence.”
Founder
Meet Wernich Stander.
A love for architecture shaped by place, heritage and meaningful space.
Growing up in Stellenbosch, Wernich Stander discovered his love and passion for architecture while roaming its historic streets and experiencing spaces that carried meaning. That early connection continues to shape the way he approaches architecture today, with a focus on spaces that are more than structures, but places that provoke feeling and emotion.
Wernich graduated with a Master of Architecture degree from the University of the Free State in 2014. He began his career as a project architect at a prestigious Paarl-based firm, where he spent the next ten years gaining extensive knowledge in contextual architecture, heritage structures and sound construction practices. During this time, he worked on projects published in Architectural Conservation in South Africa since 1994: 100+ projects by Albrecht Herholdt and The South African Additions ofThe Architectural Digests. He later joined a multi-disciplinary firm, expanding his experience in educational, healthcare and large-scale housing facilities.
The Practice
About WSA.
Conscious, well-crafted and cost effective.
Wernich Stander Architects creates architecture that is bold, creatively unique and elegant, something he belief every end user yearns for. The practice is guided by the ambition to create environments that do more than serve a function, but leave a lasting impression through feeling, experience and care.
The Practice is founded on three core principles (The 3 C's): Conscious, Well-Crafted and Cost Effective. Conscious in its approach to technology, materials, the environment, immediate context and unique heritage. Well-crafted in its attention to detail and workmanship. Cost effective in the way budgetary considerations are carefully managed throughout the project journey.
